New quota rules for hiring of males in Korean public schools now under consideration...

The Seoul education authorities' proposal to set a quota for employing male teachers is setting off a new controversy as female teachers and groups attack the measure as sexual discrimination.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has recently submitted a bill to a committee of nationwide educational superintendents, under which public schools are required to increase the percentage of male teachers to up to 30 percent...

Not for Korean men.
This makes me wonder... is there a lack of interest in teaching on the part of Korean men, or are the schools just hiring women in higher percentages?
The pay isn't bad (after a while), there are lots of available female co-workers to hook up with.... why are barely 30% of those being hired Korean men?
Is it the lack of a company credit card for room salon visits that makes teaching less appealing?
Heck, three male teachers from my old high school married their former students -- perhaps the gov't could take this angle in recruiting young male teachers? |

I know one for sure... his desk was next to mine. We all went to his wedding last year. I know that particular one, and how it went down (partially). She was a student at the school in his first year of teaching. She went on to college, and after graduating, did a student-teaching intern at the same high school as she graduated from. He was 36 last year, and she was 25, I think, when they married..
He claims they started dating when she was an intern (could be true -- who knows). I know I did bump into them out on the street a few times near my home. He always told me to not to tell anyone. Until they announced their marriage, the relationship was sort of a secret (but everyone knew).
As for the other two guys, I know one of them used to work in my building, but I didn't get to know him. The third teacher was no longer there, although it could have been due to anything -- not that.
I can't fault the guy... they were/are in love. |

I don't see a problem with it... PROVIDED they also put a quota of FEMALE teachers at the high school and university level. |
