|
|
My first phone interview is scheduled for tomorrow, and I realized that I don't really know how to prepare for it.
What kinds of questions can I expect? The standard biggest strength/weakness questions, or some more specific teaching questions?
I've never taught English before, will they ask me if I have any ideas for lesson plans or things like that? Because if they do, its time to do some brainstorming.
Or are they basically just making sure that I'm not a complete freak?
Thanks for the advice! |

They'll ask you how fast can you pack and come.
You should be doing all the questioning such as:
Pay, benefits, housing, etc. etc. Prepare and ask lots of questions. And ask for two or three FTs email address both present and past. |

Don't beleive them on the interview time either.
SMOE managed to mess up a two hour time difference between Korea and Thailand. Rang me at 6am when I was just getting up. |

It's a job interview with a few extra questions based on the fact that your overseas. Here are some questions they may ask.
#1 How long do you plan on being in Korea for?
#2 Why do you want to teach?
#3 What experiance do you have teaching?
#4 What experiance do you have with children?
#5 Why do you want to teach in Korea.
That's a few , but usually they just want to check your English level and make sure you have enough energy to deal with "the little angels". |

Have been asked a few times if I was in good health. When I hear that, I kinda think they've had a few people "suddenly go home" due to health reasons, if you know what I'm saying.
99% chance that unless you suffer from Turret's Syndrome, you will be offered a job regardless of your answers. |

That's God punishing you for leading a life of depravity in Thailand. |

I bagged a PS job pretty quickly but still had hagwan interviews lined up that I still answered out of politeness.
For the interviews I went full on 'scouse' and used slang that no Korean would ever be expected to make any sense of. I got offered every job.
All they really want to know is that you are alive and are a real person interested in the position. Anything else is a bonus. |

In the hagwon I worked at before my current job, there were three of us from Liverpool. Oh the fun we had on after-school parties/dinners |

| My first Korean job interview was partly made up of questions from the hagwon's level 5 (low-intermediate) speaking test. The hogwan supervisor was asking questions with the boss listening in and aparently didn't feel confident coming up with anything more original. |

I met a Korean this week who understood Scouse. He spent 3 years studying in Dublin and managed to meet his fair share of scousers over there. First I knew he understood me was when I decided to let rip on a drunken Korean who was bugging the hell out of me. The guy who understood thought it was hilarious |
