| If I connect to the internet from my laptop using a satellite in space then can I travel around Asia with decent connectivity? ...even to remote locations? |

Theoretically yes, practically, no.
Most satellite service is NOT 2-way service but land line out and satellite back. This would not meet your goals.
True satellite service (2-way) is expensive and somewhat slow. We use this method at a couple of locations in the Philippines where land service is NOT available at any cost or means.
The transmissions are sent as large data packets to the ISP so the transfer rate for big stuff is great up and down but web surfing and e-mail are very slow.
Rates start from about US$300 per month and go up depending on bandwidth usage. You are also restricted / prohibited from importing the equipment in some countries.
The satellites are also in a mid pacific geo orbit and are not visible to anything west of about 110E long. |
