Instead of spending all your time clicking on the hungersite or whatever, just give your spare change into one of those Family Mart boxes or bank boxes. I reckon if you made a pledge to donate every coin you ever got that was below 100 Won then it would make the world slightly different.
Or, give somebody the change out of 1000 Won from your bus fare. |

1. The bus fare IS 1000. What change?
2. Its been proven that the WORST thing you can do is give change to beggars. They spend the money on booze and their situation gets worse.
Great ideas there, genius. |

Yes, giving to people is never a good thing for society or them. But doing what he said in most of his post was ok, like the donation boxes. |

How can it get worse? My sister used to say the same thing. Don't give them money, they'll just get drunk. And what did she do on the weekends? Go out with her student friends and get drunk.
What's wrong with being drunk?
My other friend (I've got two) used to say 'buy them some food and then they'll progress through life'.
I don't see how that can happen. Firstly, if they can't make the decision to choose between feeding themselves and getting gee-eyed then I don't reckon they have much of a chance at holding down a job etc. Secondly, since when was eating a burger or sandwich enough qualification to get into a job or get a mortgage? |

Anyway, use your own discretion.
Give it to boxes if that's your disco. The boxes need homes too! |

Your sister also had a home, money for food, medicine, etc. And although she may have gotten drunk on occassion, she was not a homeless, hungry alcoholic who spends money on an addiction rather than on necessities.

The steps aren't:
1. Homeless alcoholic
2. Career man
There are steps in between. Weening yourself off an addiction would probably have to come before getting a job. That isnt going to happen if you give them money to feed their addiction.

It isnt. Eating is one of those necessities in life. Heres a challenge. Give up food for a week and just drink some cheapo soju. Go to work. I bet you dont last the week.
Your lack of understanding of basic things involved in this issue makes your advice absurd.
And the busfare is 1000 won. WHAT CHANGE? |

1000 for you. Use your imagination, I'm not trying to introduce a radical philosophy here.
I'll keep it simple...give some thought to charity.
What would you do if you were homeless and somebody gave you 1000 Won? I don't see the point of saving it. Why can't they make up their own minds on how to spend it? I wouldn't assume they were all alcoholics. |

Im not homeless, neither are you, so asking these questions is stupid. The facts are that a VERY SIGNIFICANT % of homeless are alcoholics. Give money to an addict and that addict feeds his addiction. Addicts have been known to steal and kill to get money to feed their addiction so you cna imagine how bad it can be. Alcoholism is a powerful addiction and giving money to an alcoholic is like giving him a bottle of cheap soju.
Giving thought to charity is different from helping addicts feed an addiction. Your ideas are pretty much the opposite of what is good for these people. |

No, but you are right in saving it isn't worth it, and it is not enough to do anything major with (like buy a suit). Unfortunately, as hard as this seems, the homeless problem will never be solved by a bandaid approach (giving them random amounts of money at random times). There has to be a system in place to continuously help these people and make them feel a part of society again. Giving money to shelters helps.
ANother thing, there are some people in China who make more than computer programmers or even us teacher (we make quite a bit more than the normal Chinese person) by begging. Beggars nowadays are not necessarily poor, same with the squiggy kids back home

All right, who should I give money to then?
Whoops, didn't have time to read previous post. All the same, it's little things like this that bamboozle me into inaction. I remember finding out when I was a teen that some of the money I had been collecting for charity went to finance the arms trade. |

Organizations that help these people. Shelters, places that provide warm meals to them, etc. Do some research first. |

Yeah, I just thought I had a quick and easy way to do something useful with all that loose change I had. I don't know of any organization around here. |
