My mother and grandmother (both French, don't drink) are coming over for a weekend soon and I've been trying to think of what to do with them. Obviously a weekend out on the piss won't cut it with them so I actually have to plan some activities.

In terms of palaces, I was thinking either Gyeongbokgung or Changdeokgung, neither of which I have been to (the shame!) Which is better in terms of beauty and interest.? I've been to Deoksugung briefly on the way to an art exhibition but thought it wasn't great.

Aside from palaces, I had in mind: Namsan, Insa-dong, Cheonggyecheon, Myeong-dong for the full on Korean experience and the cherry blossoms in Yeouido if they're still about at the end of this month. Also maybe War Memorial or Seodamun prison for some recent history.

Does anyone have any experience of having older relatives over that can help? Cheers

If you have a car, you might consider a road trip to King Sejong's tomb via Ichon. Ichon has pottery stuff, a mountain park and hot springs. King Sejongs tomb would be nice if the grass has had a chance to green up a bit. You could make Ichon in an hour from Seoul and the tomb in another 30 or so minutes past that.

Getting a car/tour (taxi? Seoul city bus tour?) for the day is probably a good idea. Nothing is more exhausting than hauling your butt up and down those subway stairs a million times, especially if you're an old person.

The Nanta show is great for visitors.

The Seoul river cruise is also very nice:

Both are about 45,000 a person.

Maybe just take the cruise with no dinner and eat at the KFC on the pier to save 25,000 a person.

Just had my mother over, and we went to the DMZ, Hwaesong Fortress in Suwon, Kyongju and Namsan among other things. A DMZ tour is always good for foreigners with less knowledge about Korea than us that live here. Takes away some of the the doubts they have about Korea. (Or maybe reinforces them for some people)
