thinking about going to China sometime in mid May/early June for a visit, how long does it take for them usually to issue the visa? and how much does it normally cost?

will probably just buy a cheap airline ticket online and goto the embassy direct rather than through a travel agent (or are the prices pretty much similar for ticket +visa)?)

Cost depends on where you are from.

Most people, 35k for 4 day service, 55k for 2 day service, 70k for same day.
For US citizens, 60k for 4 day service, 90k for 2 day and 120k for same day.
