Similar to the music thread:

Sculpting: Bernini, specially his Ecstasy of Saint Theresa piece. The amazing fluid nature of that work... is breathtaking.

Painting: Dali was before his time and transcended... shit, even for today's standards the boundaries of art.

Does photography count? I really like Philippe Halsman, especially his Salvador Atomicus:

Amazing.

Q, man, my dislike for you has just turned into a deep like. Bringing up photography, you knew exactly what to do to get in my good books.

There's a Robert Capa exhibition running till May 26th at the Seoul Arts Center, near nambu Bus Terminal. I suggest you go.

On the topic of photography, I would bring up Sebastiao Selgado, Rovert Capa, Henri Cartier Bresson. Im sure you know the site already since you show an interest in the art, but www.magnumphotos.com is a treasure trove of brillian images.

I was watching this thread with lots of curiosity. 7 posts in all...while a thread on a 3rd rate rock band like the Stones goes for 5 pages, threads on garbage electronic music go on for pages.

I've always enjoyed the works of French impressionists, so pick one- any one.

Really though I'm not so much a fan of photography as I am of surrealism in all its forms.

See Im not a fan of surrealism at all. To me art should speak of the human condition. Surrealistic photography doesnt appeal to me, documentary photography does. Have you checked out the magnum page yet? That is truly the highest form of visual art - images that speak of real human stories, trials and tribulations but also of joy and passion, love and hate. Art should tell a story. Surrealism doesnt.

Man, Man Ray ... I guess he appeals to some. There was a Man Ray exhibition at the Kim gallery at Insadong for a while, I think it might be gone now. Not my cup of tea at all, thats why I didnt bother going in. I would however suggest going to the Seoul Arts Center for the Robert Capa exhibition. Its on now till May 26th.
