It almost sounds like you just don't want to pay the 20 000won or so in recycling fees.

I gave away a POS computer on here a while back. Somebody actually wanted the thing and knew how to fix it.

The POS bicycle, however, still sits on my balcony.

Hollywood, you're partially right--considering the time I'm putting in listing, packaging, and mailing, saving the 3,000 won the recycling guys charge for pickup is a nice consolation. I could have used that time to teach an extra class or two, and financially I'd be a ways ahead. That's not the main reason I do it this way, though.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle--they are in that order for a reason. If you can't reduce the waste in the first place, the next best option is to reuse it, or if you can't do that, find someone who can. In this case, an old computer needing about $15 in parts to get it running again might be of use to someone out there who knows and wants to fix it.

The final option, recycling, takes a fair amount of energy and inevitably releases some of the toxic waste materials and byproducts into the environment.

I'm by no means a model environmentalist, but I'm trying to do what I can to limit the harm I'm doing to creation, and to be a good steward of what I have. One way is by turning off the shower while I soap up. Another is listing stuff on Dave's before throwing it away. (As for the monitor, I'm pretty sure someone who needs it is getting a darn good deal.)

And what do you know, there are several people who would love to take these things off my hands.

Honestly, I think there should be a stop to all the ridiculing that goes on when someone lists something on here (I'm not saying that's what you were doing, Hollywoodaction). You never know, someone might actually want or need that half-used bar of deoderant. And giving it away sure beats throwing it away.

Look out for more free junk from me in the future - (actually, I have an old film camera I'd like to get rid of, if anyone's interested).

Sure, but what I was getting at is that based on your description, it almost sounds as if you think that your computer would make a nice doorstop. But, hey, the case should still be good, and so would be the power supply. That's a good 50 000won of hardware that you're giving away right there alone.

Computer has been given away, and monitor has been sold. Sorry to those who missed out--when I have more tech junk to get rid of, I'll post it here first. Wink

(It might be of note to say that it's very hard to find anyone who will ship used computer-related stuff anymore due to fraud--it certainly wasn't like this a year ago, even. This time I had to swear to the relative worthlessness of my stuff before I could find someone to ship it.)

Have a stellar weekend!
