Over the ages, it is the artists we remember. I would say only scientists rival artists in this regard, but I would liken them to eac other in that both create something new: art or in the case of scientists, new scientific theories, laws, etc.

From painting and sculture, to photography, to literature and music, are artists superior to others?

Calling photography art is like calling a NASCAR driver an athlete.

There is some photography I wouldnt call an art. Some of it is. Infact I am with you in that I generally do not like art photography....it is too much removed from what I believe photography should be: a powerful tool for telling stories of the human condition. However, dismissing all photography as non-artistic, is a gross mistake IMVHO.

Kenneth Clarke:

Quote:
Great nations write their autobiographies in three manuscripts, the book of their deeds, the book of their words and the book of their art. Not one of these can be understood unless we read the two others, but of the three the only trustworthy one is the last.

I like to think artists are superior.

You're forgetting 2 groups that we remember, Politicians/Leaders and Generals/Warlords.
We remember the first group partly because of the giant monuments they have built to themselves or for their glory (Pyramids, Parthenon) or their mistakes they make (George Bush) We remember the second group simply because of how many dead, or how wide a swath of destruction they made (Ghengis Khan anyone?) and because, frankly, war is cool.

Yes, but the monuments are created by artists. The leaders simply comission them. Generals dont create, thats why I dont find them worthy of being called superior.

Valid point but the leaders come up with money for the great projects and (at least in the modern era) the reason the monuments (loosely defined as a giant big thing) can also reflect the economy and success of the general people. If there's money for some GBH then I truly doubt it was because of some artist. An example would be Augustus, he commissioned a lot of different GBHs and was able to because Rome was secure, quiet and safe. All of these were due to him, not to the artist(s) who designed the structures.
It's great that an artist has ideas, and truthfully, they do think of things differently than others, but I truly doubt that they bring a greater effect to our world than other groups do.

A lot of musicologists believe Wagner was a genius. Everyone remembers his art, but we'd all rather forget what kind of man he was. Superior art, but not a superior man.

Wagner was a genius. His personality is of no importance. Let's leave personality judgments at the door.

Rosa Parks and Terry Fox (for a start). Artists, warlords/generals, politicians/leaders, so many others...
Seriously, are you trying to stoke you ego here (I don't know if you are an artist or not Jinju, so just guessing). THe answer is no.
