I'm interested in making a trip with the family down to Geoje-do, but I'm not sure where to start as far as travel plans go. I think I can get there via Busan (Daegu --> Busan via KTX, Busan --> Geoje-do via ferry), but is there a better way or a more direct route? Are there any bus routes that would take us straight from Daegu to the ferry? Is there a bridge connecting the island to the mainland? Any advice would be appreciated.

There is a bridge. You have to go kind of htel ong way though. It goes through Masan and out that way towards Geoje. I would be surprised if there wasn't a bus from Daegu to Okpo ("big" city on Geoje). Geoje is really nice. WE stayed at Mokdong Beach this time last year and it was a great relaxing weekend.

Or, like you mentioned, take the KTX to Busan Station. Then a 2000-3000won taxi to the Coastal Ferry Terminal (its around the corner and down the street from the intl terminal). Then there are options to take the ferry to three cities.

I haven't done it, but I bet there's a bus that goes from Daegu to Gohyeon (not Okpo -- you could then take a city bus [1K] or taxi [10k] to Okpo). Gohyeon is where the main bus terminal on the island is.

I don't know if that bus would make a lot of stops on the way. Between Seoul and Gohyeon there's a bus that doesn't stop in any other cities. But if you go from Gohyeon to Ulsan, the bus stops in Tongyeong, Goseong, Masan, Busan (maybe twice!), then hits Ulsan. It's a pain in the a$$. Could be the same drill for Daegu. If it is, then I would recommend taking the train to Busan and then the ferry to Geoje (Okpo, Gohyeon, or Jangsungpo [sp?]). I would recommend Okpo -- it's the best town/community! My home sweet home for 6 more days! (sniff, sniff Sad )

The train and ferry would require a bit more thinking and work (finding the right places to go), but it shouldn't be too hard and it will be much more comfortable.

Daegu to Gohyeon via Jinju and Tongyeong I've done.

Faster to go via the ferry near Nampodong, Busan.
