(what do you mean "a buck difference"?)

Yes, I think they are worth paying more in certain situations. Not every day.

Doesn't happen as much anymore, but there was a time in Korea when you'd frequently have 30 Koreans waiting at a taxi stop forever for a regular taxi to show up, but there'd be a line of the black deluxe cabs, empty, just praying for fares. This was frequently the case at hotels. If I was with a girl and we were on a date, and especially if I was taking her back home, I wouldn't hesistate for a second before grabbing a deluxe taxi.

If you're tall, they're much more comfortable than the regular cabs, which are themselves much roomier than Korean cabs used to be.

They are for me in one specific circumstance: from or to the airport when we return from trips or go on trips...otherwise...regular taxis are great.

I've found them useful on certain occasions. Both times were late at night, one time was when I was walking home after the subway closed and the other time was when I had to take care of my very drunken roommate. Both times, the guys were definitely helpful.

Same here if I'm going with someone. Probably use them more coming back from the airport. Perfect for families. Hell, even necessary, I reckon.

Another good thing about deluxe cabs is, while I've had many very kind & hospitable regular-cab drivers and very few bad ones, the likelihood of ever getting a rude/crude/lewd psycho/scamp/con artist/pervert as your driver is basically ZERO with the deluxe taxis.

I think the deluxe van taxis are certainly worth the extra expense because there isn't really any extra expense at all. You've got six people who want to go from Gangnam to Hongdae so you have a choice between rockin there in a deluxe van or two regular taxis for essentially the same price - it's way more comfortable and fun to go together.

As a general rule though, I rarely use the deluxe car taxis if I'm on my own.
