I'm goin to Vietnam.... wanna use my bank card... had problems in The Philippines cause you need a 6 digit PIN, whereas here mine is only 4... anyone have a similar problem in Vietnam? Also... Many bank machines that will take my Korean bank card?
Find any good hostels, beaches, cool (off-the-beaten-track things?) in or near Saigon or Hanoi?
I haven't decided on Hanoi or Saigon... any suggestions (aside from the typically stupid ones that usually come with such a request)...
Thanks.... |

I have used both my Canadian and Korean bank cards in the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan with no problems. They all used a 4-digit pin, so it sounds strange that you had a problem.
If you are going to Vietnam, I don't know why you would want to stay in a hostel. Hotels are great prices. I haven't been to Saigon, but Hanoi was great and the area around it was great. |

Went for a month back in 91. Heard it's changed quite a bit since, though. |

You will need to ask your bank about getting an International ATM. Give them specific countries. Some "international" ATM cards won't work globally. Some branches may tell you that you can't have one and pull the foreign card. It's BS. Go to a different branch. Having a Korean w/ you or a specific set of needs written in Korean may be wise.
I used my card (from A Korean bank) in Hanoi w/ no problem.
I recommend an overnight trip to Ha Long Bay and a day trip to Ninh Binh if you are hanging in Hanoi.
The Vietnamese people will lie to you and rip you off about 75% of the time. Be sure you negotiate a price with people and write it down before you agree to meals, motorbike taxis, bicycle taxis and anything else without a set price.
Go see the Water Puppet show in Hanoi. Go eat cobra in the village 7 km east of Old Town Hanoi. Don't buy drugs.
I recommend the Let's Go Vietnam book, available at What the Book in Itaewon. It lists tons of great bars and restaurants in the city. |

Also, you don't need hostels unless you need to meet people. Hotels are cheap, cheap, cheap. |
