I lived in Chang-dong for a year. It was nice. Not too far from the busier areas of Seoul (30 min by subway), but far enough away to be quiet. Depends what you want though... Can you elaborate? |

Sounds good to me, I'm headed to Northern Seoul. Quiet but not boring is what I'm hoping to find. |

I would like to be somewhere in the north so that I'm closer to the rock climbing gym there. I would like a place which has decent apartments. I'm not spoiled, but I don't want to live in a chicken coupe either. I would like to have at least a decent variety of food and bars available to me, but the area doesn't have to be ritzy or anything. would like to be in an area with people who are easy to get along with. "Quiet but not boring" is probably the most succinct I could hope to describe what I'm looking for. I was hoping to just get a general description of the place from someone who knows that area better than I do. I applied for a job there and I don't know if I'll get it, but if I do I'm just wondering what to expect. |

Dobong Mountain is really nice. A good hike.
As far as night-life areas, Suyu Market in between Ssangmun and Suyu stations on line #4 is a pretty good area to hang out in northern Seoul.
I only know that area cause I went to a taekwondo place for a while that was in Sangmun -- I was living near Sungshin Women's University on line #4 at the time. |

The quality of the apartments mostly depend on your school, not just the area. In Chang-dong there were apartments, officetels, and villas. Our officetel was quite nice. We lived a five minute walk from the light blue and dark blue subway lines, a 5 minute walk from the river to use the walking/biking trails, and a 15 minute bus ride to a mountain. Our coworkers, who liked more of a night life said they wouldn't choose to live there again because it's not convenient after the subway closes, but we aren't the going out at night type, so it was perfect for us. |
