One (of the many) things about Korea that really aggravates me is child endangerment. Koreans simply will not put their children in seatbelts. Back home the car wpould be stopped, the parent heavily fined and reported to child welfare agencies. In Korea children play at the back windows of speeding cars and their parents think this is good parenting. The tragedy is that Korea has the worst child fatality record for automobile accidents in the OECD. Yet they do nothing about it.

This is criminal child endangerment on a massive scale. I jst don't understand how it is tolerated. I'll never figure this place out.

Normal laws of physics do not apply here.
Maybe Koreans will evolve harder heads because of this.

I have seen those children seats for sale, but in use? Never.
But then again no mother loves a child more than a Korean mother. I'm sure we can all agree.

A law was passed this Spring requiring people to put all children under the age of 6 in protective seats.

People got so upset, they successfully lobbied to have the law overturned.

*sigh*

Statistics show protective seats don't save many lives, and that the passing of laws requiring them have more to do with corporate marketing campaigns than protecting kids (Check out "Freakonomics").

With more than half the people on the road driving like maniacs, wearing a seat belt doesn't make me feel particularly safe around here anyway.

So you're saying that flying through the windshield of a car in a collision is just as safe as being restrained by a seatbelt? Or are you just saying they don't save 'many' lives, so are therefore rather useless?

Yes, I meant the former. I believe flying through the windshield of a car in a collision is perfectly safe. That's exactly what I meant. Well comprehended, sir. It's like you can read my thoughts. Kudos. Wink

No, I'm saying the safety value of protective seats is highly overrated. If there was as much effort put into getting drivers to reduce speed, follow the rules, and keep kids out of the front seat as there is to buy those expensive child seats, there would be far more lives saved.

And if I were El Presidente Del Republico Coreana I would give everyone ten minutes on the roller-coaster at Lotte World.

But I ain't, and car seats are a good idea.

We could equip it with platinum plated baby seats and call it the Pyongshin Sangja Troller-Coaster.
