First one is correct.

The bear asks.
The bears ask.

One bear asks.
Two bears ask.

4 bears are in a bar. Two bears ask for honey. The other two ask for Vodka.

Right, but I just wonder why the book has "asks". It's in Jack and Jill's The Three Little Pigs on page 8. It seems they're conjugating the verb with "the other". Makes me think that "asks" would be familiar conjugation where "ask" might actually be grammatically correct. It's making "two" into one unit.

Think about it.

Easy game to play. Which pronoun would you assign to "the other two?"

The OTHER TWO equal THEY. Therefore, They ask.

Easy game to play. "The other" equals "it". Hmm.

And it's "The other two" equals "They".

Hmm.

It's not like I don't already realise this. I say "The other two ask" and not "asks". It's just something I'm wondering about now. "The other" is "it". Therefore "asks".

Hmmmm.
