Steve Mc Garret asked an honest question, a question that warrented serious discussion only to have his thread locked by the moderators. This seems so unfair.

The question was something like Are Koreans rude in public or is it just cultural?

Why was this thread censored? This topic was brought up with me just yesterday by a KOREAN.

He said to me that Americans always say excuse me when they bump each other in public because of the fear or getting shot or stabbed with a knife by someone with a temper.

He went on to say that the Japanese also say excuse me because in the times of the samurai, people did carry swords and carried out their own justices.

In Korea, no guns and no tradition of carrying swords so people have to special motivation to be polite to each other.

I agree with my friend that he may have the answer there or part of it.

In the end, it does not prove that Koreans are bad people and Americans are good. People are people.

This topic that Steve Mc Garret brought up is absolutely one that belongs on Dave's board because foreigners new in Korea need explanation on this topic.

Unfair? What does unfair have to do with anything?

I think maybe Dave or someone should write a PM and send it to all newly registered members which explains that this is a privately run site and does not need to be 'fair'.

All that kind of moderation does is create more discussion of what someone would like not to talk about. It's just pointless and annoying. 'Ahh, we need to cool down! We have to let everything cool down! Oh no, what else can be do but lock and delete!'.

The fate of the free world does not depend on the views expressed here, for goodness sakes.

THREAD LOCKED.

It's too bad more people don't take the time to read the forum guidelines. Yes, some stuff gets pulled and maybe we question it. I do from time to time (like the motorcycle thread this morning that was just so damn funny).

I'd like to lobby for a rule against all caps in the subject line, which is think is totally unwarrented. If you do it occasionally, I can see just letting it go, but making a habit of it annoys other users. However, I guess that's what some people live for these days.

I didn't read it but it sounds like a rude topic. My impression is a lot of what the moderators do is to sweep up so lurking Koreans won't be too offended.

So, is there a more free-wheeling, un-moderated site in Korea? In Japan we have www.bigdaikon.com It can be offensive and nasty, but also very interesting...

Posing questions to mods or axe-grinding in public, like you did here, can result in your thread being locked. Doing this repeatedly will result in ban. Why? Re-read this particular point in the TOS, which you agreed to upon registering and continuing to be a part of this online community. On the whole, we traditionally let TOS violations slide, in order to allow the forum to breath. But, looking back at what went down last week, plus some lingering issues with certain posters, we've become a lot less forgiving. If you had raised your beef to us in PM about your concerns, we would be a little more accommodating.

At any rate, our view of of the board and how it stands in accordance to the TOS has notably changed of late, and over the next little while, certain posters will be very directly asked to shape up or ship out. Consider this a heads-up, so certain parties can consider improving their track records in advance. And for the ones who don't, I encourage you to keep pushing or walking the line, just so we can show you how serious we are.
