Little bit of back ground for a long post...
We have 3 student in our kindy program. and today one of them wasn't there, so for language arts the girls ended up being seperated. The girl I'm with is very quiet and isn't exactly the best student. but is slowly progressing. So since her friend wasn't there today I figured we wouldn't do book work we'd work on just getting her to talk. So we're in the middle of her describing what people look like when in walks my K co-teacher and the director. (co-teacher looks about a step from tears) anyways the director decides that we need to teach this young girl the alphabet and that will get her to talk more. (she wasn't getting all the descriptions of people correct, but was atleast trying) So we start with this whole "What letter is this?! Yay!! You got it" type deal.
Now I'm sorry, I've been teaching this girl going on 2 and a half months, if she doesn't have the alphabet down you need to take me out back and shoot me. So she gets all the letters correct. SO then we move on to counting, well I've got the kids spelling the numbers and not just counting them, so of course she breezes through that too. And the director seems to think that it is just her amazing teaching technique that accomplishes it.
So we get the..."You need to do more of this", be more happy, clap more, she even told me I needed to have the students jump up and down. |

Nod politely, agree with everything, ignore everything said, and then continue to teach them well. |

Yup. Nothing more insulting than when an adult wants you to treat a child like he/she's a moron. Treat your kindies like real people and they'll act accordingly. But I def agree with the first reply: nod, smile and then stick with what was working. |

I second this
I have the same problem with the parents of the children....
They have no idea where you are and where you are going. |

Your are the teacher and she is the director. You teach and she will direct. Then just ignore the annoying yool cause she doesn't have a clue how to teach. |

ok cool...our director has got everyone walking on egg shells. Our k teachers won't even talk to me during our 5 minute passing periods between classes because they "are not allowed to" I found out today that during lunch (I don't eat at the school cuz I don't think I should have to eat with the kids) that NOT A SINGLE teacher talked at lunch.
I think I kinda get over on alot of the "threats" and the like because 1 I am the only male and 2 I have an A-3 visa so I'm not so worried about what she can do to me. |
