|
|
| I am currently in my senior year of college and want to teach in English at a university in Korea eventually. My problem is that I want to pursue a graduate degree that will make me more marketable. I have a choice between a MA in TESOL, a MA in Linguistics, or a MA in English. Which would most likely get me a better job overseas? I can can easily get certification if I pursue any of these degrees. |

| My impression is that an advanced degree in any of them would unlock a university job here. My advice: pursue the one that most interests you. |

Wow, kudos to the OP for thinking ahead and planning. Great question.
I agree that you should do whatever interests you the most not what the current trend for marketability is. You may not like working overseas, or you may not want to do it for the rest of your life. Best to do what you enjoy. |

Master in English.
Not only can you get EFL jobs, it will also open up the possibilty of landing great jobs with international schools.
Try to go on and do a well recognized TESOL cert or dip - then the teaching world will then be your oyster! |

I'd suggest teaching a year between undergrad and grad, to see if its actually what you want to do. You will get more out of school with some experience.
And consider getting a cert course first. |

| If you want to come to Asia to teach - it doesn't matter which discipline. Just go to a well known school. You will be hired within seconds. |

| Right now I stand a good chance at getting a MA in Linguistics or in English. I like both but didn't know which would be more marketable. Anyways, which seems more desirable, MA in TESOL or certification? |
