|
|
I teach at high school students who are at a very low level. I was thinking of doing a body parts lesson plan next week. My plan was to give the students a blank outline of a body, and have them write in the names of as many body parts as they can. Obviously, the kids are going to draw penises and breasts, which is fine, not like they're dirty parts that we should pretend don't exist (I'm not sure my co-teachers will feel the same way, though...), but I can definitely see a tendency for this to get out of control, especially with the freshman all-boy classes, with them drawing and writing lewd stuff on the pictures. It happened last week with a class when we drew restaurant menus, so I have a good idea that it will happen again!
Should I scrap the idea, or only do it with the classes I think can handle it? & how do you guys deal with this sort of stuff? Just laugh it off, tell them to stop, get the co-teacher to take care of it, ignore it, send them out of the class? I realize they're kids, but I can't imagine I'd ever have turned in a menu to my teacher that said, "I'm the boy, you're the girl sex" (partly because I'm not totally sure what they mean... there aren't any gay people in Korea, right?! Haha!), or with drawings of big penises on it, no matter how old I was! I think that's pretty disrespectful, but I just kind of ignored it.
Does anyone have any good ideas for games or activities do to with high schoolers for learning body parts? |

Tell them that you're going to show the drawings to their parents so that they can, "see how well you're doing." |

If you look around on the internet, you should be able to find a body picture with "blanks" pointing to various parts. I would try to use something like that so you can limit what they can label. Some of htem will do it anywya, but thats unaviodable. |

Tell me more, Andrew Finch's book, has a great body outline for student's to complete. I have it on the abodbe button/folder of my site. I think it is near the end of the book. I would also recommend of course, the standard, "head and shoulder..." + just getting students to do the simple simon stuff and TPR. I have the kids karoke of the song which keeps getting faster and students find super enjoyable...

I let a student lead the class in a game of hangman today. After no one guessed the word and the man was hanged, he proceded to add extra body parts to insure the man was hung. Hilarious.
I supposed it was all in good humor as the Korean cartoons show animated phallics now and then. |
