With an eye toward avoiding an all-out nuclear arms race in East Asia, I sincerely hope they don't set up us the bomb.

Wow that first video is incredible.

So, Korea makes steel, ships, semiconductors, nuclear power and automobiles? And a handful of Koreans have gone on to do great things in the world? I just don't understand the point. Videos like this, even without the wanton Konglishy, just make Korea look bad, not good. Ooh look at us!!!! No one wear that pendant well.

What makes this so fun is that it was a government sponsored competition.

The Korea Times wrote:
The Korean Overseas Information Service (KOIS) announced the winners of its first annual video contest, held from Feb. 16 to March 15, which asked participants to submit self-made entries under the theme of ``Dynamic Korea.''

The judges selected six out of the 279 entries _ submitted by 146 participants, including 64 foreigners _ for the top prizes, and named another 31 videos as honorable mentions.

The event was jointly organized by Internet company NHN, the operator of Korea's most popular search engine, Naver.com (www.naver.com).

Among the six winners, ``Looking at Korea by Statistics,'' submitted by an Internet user with an ID of ``sexyboba,'' scored the highest among judges. The video combines images and text for a quick rundown of the country's geography, demography, economy, culture and other basic information that are broken down by numbers.

I wonder how bad the other ones were? sexyboba Very Happy

I don't think that in the OP qualifies as Konglish. Rather, it's just a very bad attempt at English by a Korean who's been studying for....oh, 15 years?

Konglish is when Korean borrows an English word and it takes on a new, Korean meaning....like 써비스.

It's quite right however to say that the vid contains some comical English and is an excellent advertisement for potential English teachers.

Nice song in the vid too. They ripped off Ice Cube's 'Today was a good day' but it's a great track so no matter.

None of them are funny and also aren't particularly good examples of Konglish.

Although I love ripping on Korea as much as the next expat, this is actually a good thing. Korea and Japan have better networks than basically the rest of the world, which is why their phones won't work on American/European networks.
