I'm thinking about buying a PSP, but only if it can be modded (like the Xbox). Has anyone have any knowledge or experience in PSP hacking? I basically want to use it in a similar fashion to the modded Xbox for media playing, games, emulation etc. |

From what I understand there is only one model which can't be down graded to the hackable firmware.
Not sure what model it is though.
They will run Linux on them.
I believe the games are played off the memory stick. |

I just did my brothers PSP. It had 2.62 firmware so I downgraded to 1.5 then upgraded to 3.03/3.30 Now he can run CSO files (compressed ISOs) from the mem stick. He's thrilled.
Yesterday saw the release of the latest (3.40) Open Ed. firmware from Dark Alex. This is the latest Sony PSP firmware, and it's hacked to run CSOs too.
So be sure to check the PSP firmware if your gonna buy one.
I think at this time anything 3.03 and below can be downgraded and then flashed with the custom firmware. Google it to be sure.
I'd avoid TA-802 board models, although they can be downgraded now also. |
