You have all the time in the world to decide. There is NO rush and don't let anyone pressure you into making a decision.

Eastern English is just another branch-chain hakwon. The usual caveats apply. Being as far out of Seoul as they are, they are probably desperate and that is their urgency.... get you before you find a better job or head off to a public school.

Can't give you any specifics about the University there but it is NOT going to be a particularly plum job either seeing how it is also way out in the sticks.

Is it the uni proper or a unigwan (university language institute) job?

There a few Eastern English hagwons in Jeonju. I know of two...one is alright the other....ehhhhh....PM and I'll let you know what I've heard. I don't want to post it on here as fact snce it's all second and third hand info.

Jeonju University isn't too bad from what I've heard. The location is on the outskirts of town but it's not like it's in the sticks either. The teachers that I know who are there live in the actual city. There are buses that go there so it's not all that expensive from what I understand.

Is it a uni position or the unigwon?

And as for it being out in the sticks....Some people think anywhere not in Seoul is the sticks....So do with that what you will...

If you want to contact people who actually live in Jeonju try here....
http://jeonjuhub.googlepages.com/

Perhaps someone there can help...

I hate to disagree with Ttompaz but Seoul is not the 'be all and end all' of Korea.
You can live outside of Seoul and have a wonderful time/job.

You guys from Seoul make it sound like schools outside of Seoul are full of hicks.

What uni is it in Jeoun-ju. PM me right away. There are two hakwons in that city that use University names and they have nothing to do with university students or the uni.

I don't live in Seoul - never have and I still think Jeonju is in the sticks.

Jeonju

Is a nightmare...no one speaks english. The place is boring, the main bar in town is an extension of university wannabe teachers, I almost puked.

It's not bad at all. You are 45 mins from Moju mountain, 1 hour away from Mt. chirisan, great hiking all around and another hour from the ocean. The food is excellent and the people are really nice.

Anyway, what about those unigwons

I keep thinking but the only one I can think of is at Jeonju University. I can't say for certain if they teach only children or what though. It's on the campus I think....

What about Woosuk university? Are they actually a university or no?

I had friends teach there and had decent jobs, but I have heard the opposite too. Since that time, they have gone through changes and the hiring manager has assured me it would better now.

Any thoughts?

There is a Woosuk University but it's not in Jeonju proper...it's in Wanju-ku, I think. I took mu blackbelt test there and from what I remember it was perhaps a 30 minute bus ride to get there . I don't know anyone who works there so I can't really help...sorry....

I don't know where everyone is from but for me, a city of 600,000 people is NOT the sticks-although I can certainly see the sticks from here... I have lived in Jeonju about 3 months and find it an excellent place to live. All the expats here that I have met have been open and friendly. The people are also kind and they always try to speak English. My new coworkers all agree that Jeonju is a better place to live than Seoul but opinions vary.
