Here is the top viewed article today on Daum. The story is that a Korean man in Toronto was beaten by the owner of a small restaurant and then when he called the police he was assaulted by them too. No word of it in any Canadian news but the story has drawn alot of outrage from koreans who are posting that Canada is a very racist country, even more so than the states. Check out my post near the bottom where I try to explain that we experience racism in korea too. I'm under the name 블라블라블라.

Not making an excuse for police violence in any country, but from what I've seen, Korean men don't treat Korean cops with much respect. I've seen them ignore them, poke them in anger and push them aside.

I'm not keen on Korean police, but if you try that in the USA, you are only asking to get hit.

I guess they better not go to the USA or Canada then if they feel that way. Maybe they better high tail their arses back home too because it might get just as bad as they THINK in their minds.

I'm very curious about how the policemen in charge would rationalize the incident. Here's the 67 year old victim's pictures. He lost 6 teeth and got all bruised.

He must have done something really really really bad. Otherwise, the policemen were on crack. Let's see how the investigation goes and how the local media covers it.

Two sides to every story....we don't know the facts, so it's easy to jump conclusions and point fingers.
I do know that in most countries in the world...if one does not listen to the cops....even though most are pathetic boneheads on a power trip, especially U.S. cops, if one does not cease talking, yelling or poking your finger in the mans chest.....you are going to get the azz whipping of your life.
We all know and have seen koreans, their behavior toward each other and to authority (cops) and they take the wrong path most times when it comes to antagonizing the man.
As for the cops just beating a person without provocation....it does not happen.
We all know that if koreans act the way they do toward cops in Canada, etc. as they do in korea......they will get hurt.

If that's what happened (I don't know yet either way) surprised I am not. That the other side of the story hasn't been published by the Korean media... well, again, surprised I am not. It obviously Rolling Eyes because Canadians are more racist than Americans Rolling Eyes

If Canadian (and American) police are racist for beating the p*** out of you when you poke your finger in their face and antagonize them, go to Japan and try it. You'll be lucky to walk away without any broken bones... scratch that. You'll be lucky to walk away.

The fact that this story has not been told in English means one of 2 things:

1. The Toronto Police are covering it up b/c of shame or..

2. The facts in the story are not true.

Neither are good, but I hope it's #2. It's kind of embarrassing.

But if dumb Koreans think Canada is so racist, they can feel free not to go there. I won't miss them.

Nice work albazalba for digging it up. See how many people replied..maybe even more than the 'if you go to prostitutes you are discusting' thread or at least as much as any racial thread on Dave's. That lousy journalist will probably get some kind of commission for digging it up and can you really blame him/her. Racism is always sensational and brings viewers. Also the journalist would get fired for not getting news sources in the ruthlessly competitive Korea.

A smart persons decision on whether to post a message and so boost the sensationalism of the story should be proportional to how big the story is and how much credibility it has. The internet is a dangerous thing in the wrong hands. Here in Korea, the internet is BIG. Is it in the the wrong BIG hands?

I think the answer is obvious..

will Canadians (here is Seoul) be removing their "maple leafs" from their backpacks for the next couple of weeks for their safety?

we all know how some korean people take these kind of happenings a little too personally and seriously with retribution......

So from your logic, any foreigners who accuse Koreans of being racist, are dumb?
