If I send a package to the States it's there in 3 or 4 days. Anything coming to me from the same address takes 2 to 3 weeks! Why? I've got the correct address, customs form filled out properly and correct postage. Can anyone explain the problem?
I plan ahead bu it's still a major pain waiting for things I need. |

You can blame Korean customs agents - not only that, depending on where you are in Korea, if the package is not addressed to you in Hangul characters, they tend to get here more slowly because many postal workers still cannot recognize English letters or pronounce them. Putting the six-digit postal code on doesn't seem to help much either, especially in the countryside. |
I live in Gwangju, Jeollanam-do, and have the university address on my packages. Tried using hangul.. made no difference.

I think it has to do with the lack of street addresses in Korea. I think everything just gets sorted by City, then Gu, then San, then building and room. Takes time.
In my case my dorm is in one Gu, but the university is in the other gu; creating terrible delays. If I use the proper Gu, the mail is really slow. If I use the incorrect "University Gu", the mail is only slow. |

your things get to the states in 2-3 days!? Where is that?
I mail things home, to the west coast of the States and it takes a week at least. I always count on the fact that if I send something on Monday, it gets there the next Monday.
And pretty much the same rule applies for anything I've gotten sent here. There have been a few exceptions, but usually I am more surprised that a flimsy postcard has made the trip halfway across the world, rather than angry that it has taken so long. |

My stuff always gets here from Canada, or places I've ordered from online in the States, very quickly. Going the other way is a different story, but I've only sent my unneeded stuff home that way, so I've only used the slowest, cheapest way.
Maybe it's because I'm in Seoul? I don't know. No complaints here though. |

When I send a package to my mom in San Antonio, Texas from the ROK post office on campus she usually gets it within 3-5 days.
When she sends me a package from the post office by her house to my box at the uni, it takes at least 2 weeks, usually 3.
We both use regular air mail. Not the special services. |
