|
|
Hey there - first off, is there anyone out there that has heard of, or worked at, a hagwon for Kindy/Elementary in Bundang called "The Welton School"? I've been in contact with them a little, and the pictures of the school look opulent, pay seems good, etc. - but I'd like to hear from anyone who has been/is associated with them some further details.
Second, and this is a broader question: the school is entering its second year - what do y'all think? Yes, I'm concerned a bit, simply because it's a new school. But before we get to blanket statements like "avoid any new school like the plague", I just want to hear about a few experiences of others w/new schools, etc. I mean yes, clearly, there could be problems, like no curriculum or organization whatsoever, lack of materials, etc. However, there are current hagwons that are 6 years old or more that are even worse - so that isn't always a reference. Also, just because a school is new doesn't mean it will suk automatically - it could be fantastic.
So, stories, thoughts, opinions, ideas, suggestions for specific questions, etc. on whether considering a school in its second year is a wise move, or a sure-fire march into chaotic h*ll. (and clearly, as always, I will be in contact w/the actual teachers - that much is a given) |

In the interest of fairness, I will disclose to you that I am friends with one of the owners before I start.
Clean school, profitable, and very well funded. There will be no problems with your pay.
I can't honestly say what it is like to work at the school, as I don't, and can't say what it would be like to work for them. I can say, however, that the school is well above average for Korean hagwons, and has a good cirriculum for their children.
Feel free to PM me for more details. |

I had a job interview there a while ago, and I was very much impressed with the place.
It's new, yes, but it looks very well funded and the staff all seem very nice. If I wanted to teach kindergarten (I don't) and if you want to work in Bundang (I don't), I think I'd really like the place.
Also, one of the owners said they had a chef-not a cook, but a chef- making meals. Yum! |

Honestly, I think it blows chunks; at least the sample contract that they sent me does. I need to see if I can speak w/someone there, and get a "real" contract, etc, but if it's anything like the sample, I'm thinking "run". Things like: 32 hrs a week, PLUS an hour and a half a day of mandatory prep (so we're up to 39 1/2 hours a week now); no mention of pension; "open ended" requirements, like monthly staff meetings, extra curricular activities, etc.
I'll let you know. |
