I know in North American society you can be mistreated based on how you look or perhaps how you act whether good or bad. It's probably safe to say that if people will be rude, or act like crooks to you it's because

a) They think (with you) they can get away with it.

b) If they would do that to you they would do that to anyone.

I'm not sure how Koreans operate but I am assuming the same way as North Americans.

My question is, if someone tries any of the above. Would you fight back because it made you angry that they got the wrong impression of you, and they are trying to take advantage of you?

Or would you simple fight back because it's wrong and it shouldn't be taking place?

Or both?

I think the thing that gets to me the most is someone trying to take advantage of my kindness it seems like they always have to learn the hard way in the end. It's too bad. I wish I could avoid people that plan to do me wrong, but it is part of life and it cannot be avoided even if we try.

Happened to me today. I went in to get a football jersey but wanted a different number. The guy refused to even try to hear me and did this little go away thing with his hand not even looking at me.

I went to the next shop, go what I needed very easily and as I was walking by I showed the rude shopkeeper that he lost a sale. He probably didn't care but it made me feel better and I got what I wanted. Very Happy

Very few Koreans apart from hagwon owners and supervisors will try to take advangage of you. The only ones who are getting bad for this are taxi drivers around stations and ports wanting to take you places for fixed rates - don't fall for them. Otherwise there is very little street-level scamming.

You should've stood outside his store and told other people not to go in.

I wouldn't call that taking advantage of you; that was just a poor businessman losing a sale.

I guess I was commenting more on the title of the thread than to what the OP actually said.

I generally try to becareful about people around me. I kind of keep my sword ready, so to speak. People sometimes will take advantage of a person's nice nature. I used to be a lot outwardly nicer some years back. I am not. If you've proved I should be nice to you, and you are trustworthy, and I don't have to worry about you, then I will be all right with you. I am careful of what I say to people at work, people I don't know very well. However, if you are a good buddy of mine, then I wouldn't really give a rat's derriere....

You have to think as to what happened to where you felt slighted?
However, some people are confrontational types no matter what.
There is a way to deal with them by exhausting them without confronting them head on and deflecting their anger.
