So I finally got hit by one of those giant wads of phelm from a korean guy today. Right on the foot and I was wearing jandals (AKA thongs and flip flops).

Yuck!

Anyone else got caught by one of those suckers?

lol, no. but i launched a phlegm slug onto the toe of a korean guy's shoes. makes me laugh now just thinking about it. countless times the same scenario has repeated itself. i'm minding my own business walking along and there's the sound of someone loudly clearing their throat hauling up a luger. of course i look up, and he's looking at me, shoulders back and strutting towards me, real lemon-wrenched visage. and launches always on the other side, away from me. so one day i just went phlegmy about this 're-occuring scenario'. he stood there with his arms up like a poseable gumby, looking 'huh?'. it's just korean human nature to spit and show distaste at the presence of a foreigner with some guys. so it's a shock when this mindless drama on autopilot hits a scratch in the record.

I would not have been a nice guy in that case. I would have removed my shoe and wiped it on him. He's rude enough to do what he did, quid pro quo.

The elevator in my dorm is around the corner from the womens bathroom, and these chicks can really snort and bring it up from the sounds emanating from their bathroom. Kind of an incongruous mental image when your are standing waiting for the elevator with a female student all dressed in heels and skirt and blouse, hearing the sounds from the bathroom, and then to look at her and picture her doing this too.

Hey guys, this may come as a bit of a shock but: spitting is not as universal a behaviour in Korea as you'd like to think. I have gone eight months on the streets of a Korean city without a single spit sighting. I commute on foot twenty minutes every day through mainly busy city streets and I've travelled to other small cities like Masan and Mokpo, and not a single spitting sighting. And I do the bar hopping more often than I'd like, and nada. I've actually been looking for it, too, Rolling Eyes since I heard so much about it before coming to Korea. I feel I'm missing out on a cultural experience. My coworkers say it happens but not as often as in the big cities. 'Go to Busan and you will see,' they say. I'm keeping my eyes open and I'll inform you of my first gob sighting.
