Is there any? I know, I know, what a horrible reason to choose a place to live, but I must admit it is a priority. Guinness, Harps, Newcastle, Sam Adams, Samuel Smiths, most of what the Belgians offer up. Hell even Becks or Pabst Blue Ribbon. (re: 'Blue Velvet')
Where does one find this in South Korea? I'm leaning hard toward Busan. I'm not a beach goer, but the mellower weather sounds wildly more appealing than what most of you have to say about Seoul in summer, and I like rain, so the rainy summers don't sound that bad.
So, yeah, Busan sounds like the place to go. But, the beer, people, the beer. |

If you can find a Wa Bar, Texas Bar, or any other "Ice Beer Bar", they usually carry a decent selection of imports. Overpriced, but much better than the headache-inducing swill that Koreans down.
Most pubs in Itaewon carry a decent selection of imports as well.
Not too sure about Busan, though. Haven't spent much time there away from the beaches. |

Many Koreans drink imported beer. You can find imported beer in the stores even at whatever hour in the morning if that floats your boat, and there is a lot more selection in bars called Wa Bar as the gentleman said.
There are plenty of foreign style bars in Korea; I am sure there must be many such bars there. You will probably end up doing a lot of drinking in Korea. It is kind of a religion here. So watch it when you come here.
I would wager some people even became alcoholics here. |

That place is a crap hole. To those who knock Itaewon in Seoul try Texas street in Busan (and it really should be Russia street now the military are out of that area).
In Seoul, head to Platinum or Castle Praha in Gangnam for great beer. Castle Praha is also in Hongdae. The brews at La Bassus in Myeongdong are good, too. Wolfhound in Itaewon rocks for import draft beer.
Many bars have imports, but I only know of a few places with Samuel Adams. Go to Hansung University station on line 4. Look for "Western Bar" next to the McDonalds's. They have it, and other imports.
Anyone else know where to get Samuel Adams? |

One of the reasons I'm so excited to go to Korea is the culture of drinking. I like drinking, but I'm a complete wuss about being hungover, so I've gotten good at doing, but not overdoing, it. I'm not worried about being an alcoholic, the smoking or fat will kill me first.
So, its sounds like Seoul is better than Busan, then? Input?
But, the weather...
As a fat man I don't much care for sweating. |

You will sweat and drip from heat and humidity in the summer.
You're choice about where to live shouldn't come down to drinking, but if it does, Seoul is a much better place, better microbrews, more foreigners and university areas to party in. |

Busan has a much hotter climate than Seoul.
Most of us who live in Seoul enjoy it because there are a ton of people worth getting to know, and you can generally find more modern-thinking Koreans. Seoul has the most foreign restaurants and a few microbreweries as mentioned. As long as you don't mind living in a big city--or better yet prefer it--Seoul is the best place to be on the peninsula. |

Talking about beer - I was heading out of the gym on Monday and thinking about sitting outside a GS25 and having a Cass red. The sun was going down so I thought maybe I'd try and find one with a bit of a view. I ended up at the west end of Bucheon and I wandered into the first GS25 around and found freakin' Hoegaarden!! (Meaningless if you don't like white beer - but c'mon, the stuff has been around for 500 years and I love it)
Man, some days you're the dog and some days you're the hydrant and that was a total 'I am the dog' moment... |

Never been my experience.
Busan has, now and again, a kind of "breeze" off the ocean that seoul never has.
The emarts/megamarts in busan have quite a variety of imports as well: I've seen all but the samuel smiths in marts around town; as well as german (and east of german) beers. |

I can't recommend enough the box of 12 European beers in Costco. 3 Hoegarden. 3 Leffe. 3 Beck's Dark. 3 Stella Artois. All for 25,000. If you're like me and find Korean beer to be undrinkable swill then this is a great buy. |

Well, I live in Busan and there are definitely alternatives to the swill that we're subjected to in the bars. There's an Irish bar called O'Briens that serves up Guiness and Kilkenney (I think), and there are several German beer halls. I know of one in Samyeon and another in Ocheonjang. They brew their own beer, German style, and it's pretty good. I've also seen Hoegaarden and Chimay in the bars, but it's really expensive. I've also seen Tsing Tao at Homever, and crappy American brews (bud, miller, etc.) everywhere. Check pusanweb for more details on locations. |

Cass Red has to be the worst beer I've ever had. I had half a bottle left, but after tasting it sober, I threw the rest out.
If you want foreign beers cheaper, try Sinchon or Hongdae and walk around to see the prices for foreign beers. I remember the chain "Geopoom (거품 meaning foam in Korean)" had a bunch of foreign beers cheap (though they probably did something illegal to get them that cheap). |

There is a Belgian restaurant in Itaewon, it's called Mignon.
Thney have a small collection of Belgian beers, and some Belgian/French delicatesse.
