Hi all,

I'll soon be moving to Kangnam area and was wondering if anyone could tell me what the best gym or gyms are in the area, and how much they are per month, if they have an initiation fee, etc.

Any help would be appreciated!

Sweet, thank you.

Is there an initiation fee?

120k a month? Shocked

I swear Kangnam is expensive just because they can be.

Scary thing - thats not even that bad. Most of the nice gyms in New York City are $150+ a month. A friend of mine goes to Reebok/LA Sports Club and pays $210 a month and used to be a member at Equinox, which was ~ $180 or something like that.

~$120 seems like a steal!

That just seems absurdly expensive.

I paid $30 a month for a World Gym membership. All the free weights and machines I wanted to my heart's content. I was one happy slightly chunky asian boy.

Here in Korea, I paid $500 for a year. Pissed off there isn't a REAL squat rack but otherwise it's alright.

But $120 a month? Evil or Very Mad I'd want free anabolics or prohormones at that price. Shocked

Heh, i feel you. But the ones in NYC - they do your laundy and give you a locker to store your shoes, etc. So you don' t need to bring your crap with you everyday. Kinda cool - and saves on the sweaty gear accumulating in your apt.

you can bargain them down, people have been getting "lifetime" memberships for about a million won. after the first 3 years its like 100k/year and you can use it in BKK, HK and at 24 hour fitness in the US

if you go month to month they will demand 3 months in advance plus the initiation fee so its close to a mill right there

you're better off looking for the mom and pop places, they are everywhere, figure between 50-80k/month. just take a long, hard look at the facilities, some are pretty shabby and some wont take foreigners as members

The OP asked for the best one in Gangnam, so that's why I gave that link.

However, I agree that if you are only looking for a couple of months, you're going to need to work out at some avg place. Loads of those around. Let me know which dong you're in and I'll spit out some locations.

I go to a place in Nonhyeon-dong which is 35,000 for one month or 70,000 for three. It is old, rundown, small and crowded, but the people are friendly, and there are more serious lifters there at at my previous gym which was much more modern and double the price.

This is what annoys me the most.

Thing is, all the places that charge 70-100,000 a month don't have one either, so I figure why pay more for the same lack of real equipment.

I'm thinking of joining California Fitness if I can be sure that I'll be living in the area for another year.

There is another place close to California fitness called Amazon Fitness which I haven't had a look at yet. Anyone been there?

I don't think i have ever been in a more well-equipped gym than California Fitness in Apkujeong. It's a fabulous gym.
