Okay, my winter vacation is coming up and besides writing, I want to read something for fun. What can you recommend to me?

What do I like? Mysteries, clues, the solution at the end, suspense, that sort of thing.

Thanks all.

I read true crime- pretty similar to mysteries. I recommend anything by Ann Rule.

All I can come up with is Sherlock Holmes in the mystery genre! ^^

Don't know if it's quite what you're after but I love Donna Tartt's The Secret History and can't recommend it enough. It's a mystery of sorts and I was completely absorbed.

Anything by James Ellroy, particularly the LA quartet (The Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere, LA Confidential, White Jazz), American Tabloid and The Cold Six Thousand. His hard-boiled, telegraphic noir-ish argot takes some getting used to at first, but once you're in tune with it, it leaves you punch-drunk with pleasure.

Also, you can't go wrong with anything by Jake Arnott (The Long Firm, He Kills Coppers).

I second that. Always entertaining, especially when you remember that what she is writing about actually happened!

A quick, fun, refreshingly odd read:

You won't regret it. I promise.
