In Ireland there is a legal drug that is available in shops and people take it for recreational purposes. It keeps you awake all night and gives you a bit of a mellow buzz. It is sold and advertised as a dance drug.

I think the reason it is legal is because the government hasn't classified it yet because it is relatively new. Anyhow, I was wondering what would happen if a person was to ship that drug into Korea?

Just curious, I don't intend doing it.

Name of drug?

Many drugs that are legal in some countries are illegal in Korea. I doubt Korea has "Salvia" on it's books, but I wouldn't dare try shipping it or brining it here.

They'd probably dress you up like your avatar and pass you around from cell to cell.

How does the law work here? Surely if it isn't 'in the book' they can't do anything...or is there some generic law like 'anything that causes fun' is illegal?

Recreational drugs in Korea? Soju and low quality beer is it....No maryjuana, hashish, but there is some inhalable meth I heard.(I don't do it, but you would have to be a Korean to get it, I am sure) Yes, they do meth in Korea(bali bali, talk talk talk a million miles an hour), but not maryjuana or hashish. LOL. seems like Korea would be a place of drugs when I look at it, but it's really not a druggy place, just fish and alcohol.

I know marijuana, ecstacy etc. is illegal here. I'm just curious about how they define the law. If I import English Breakfast then presumably they won't get me on any drug charges. If I import a drug that makes me stay awake and want to dance then they can arrest me on what basis?

OP: Try posting your question here:

http://www.smpa.go.kr/smpaWeb/bbs/board/listMain.asp?code=for_eng&page=&s=&c=&sort=&sk=

You may want to use a PC bang computer for that, too, to keep your IP address unknown.

Bixlerscott: There IS marijuana in this country, but it takes a certain amount of bal!s and certain amount of brains (or lack of) to first of all find it, second of all to fark with it.

From my understanding, penal codes in some countries are designed so that anything they list as being legal is okay, and anything not on that list of legal things is illegal. Therefore, if there is no mention of a certain act, it is illegal.

I don't know if Korea is like that, but if it were, that would mean any drug not listed as legal would be illegal. Maybe someone more knowledgeable (sp?) can comment.

Even in Korea, drugs need to be classified in order to be deemed illegal, and subsequently make it possible to list corresponding penalties for their use.

There ARE drugs, which ar e illegal in other countries such as the U.S., which have not even been classsified here.

I know this, because there was something circulating recently in the club scene. People I know reserched the classification in korea. It wasn't even in the system, and there were no tests in place to reveal their use.

You'd better check a legit source, not an ESL teacher.

Go to my previous post and ask the police yourself.
