|
|
Hi,
I just ended my contract prematurely after mutual agreement with my boss because I had too many sick days - I was genuinely ill but he didn't trust me to recover anytime soon and I couldn't promise him that I would either.
I went to immigration with him last week and received my departure date form and we parted on good terms. However I never thought to ask for a release letter, and I never saw him giving the immigration guy anything. Do I need a release letter to get a new job and if so what exactly do I need to ask him to write?
Thanks for any advice,
Ben |

It all depends on the Immigration office. Some will ask for it, some will ask that you come in person to cancel the visa, some both. If you canceled the visa when you you were there, then odds are you won't need the LOR. |

If you want to come back to work within the time frame of your last contract then you do need a release letter.....
If it will be more than the year that your original contract was you should be fine.....
Either way if your parting was on good terms and you do come back then if you do need a release letter your previous employer should be Ok to give you one... |

Cheers for that.
So what exactly should a release letter say?
Simply, "I release NAME from contract", or are reasons needed etc? Is there a sample one posted somewhere? I doubt my boss will know what to write.
Thanks

If your boss went with you to immigration, the visa was cancelled on the spot, and you received an exit order, then that's it: it's over. You are now officially released. The LOR is for immigration, not your new boss, so if immigration says your visa has been cancelled, there is nothing to worry about. Just get a new job and do your visa run to Japan before your 14 days are up. |

JB Clemence is right. If you and your boss went to immi together, and delt with it, then you are no longer tied to a visa. An LOR WAS needed if the boss man was too busy to go, however, recently as I have experienced, it didn't matter if we issued an LOR, we still had to send a representative to cancel the visa. So, if your employer went to immi to cancel your visa, it is cancelled. No need to worry. Move on, get another job. I speak from experience. I hire teachers, and if the needs be, release them prior to the end of their E2 visas.
If you need a sample LOR, pm me. I will send it to you in the morning...afternoon. |
