For those of you (and they are legion) that missed the Rux/Crying Nut show a couple of weeks back at Drug/DGBD in Hongdae, here is a video clip of the encore: Rancid's "Time Bomb" and "Mal Dalija!" by Crying Nut, featuring members of Rux, Kingston Rudieska and the RockTigers. Enjoy!

I'm annoyed I didn't come out to that one. We were there for the Galaxy Express show the night before and the woman didn't want to go out two nights in a row. |

aaaah. Beautiful chaos.
Is stagediving onto a bunch of Korean teenage girls doable? |

It's generally strangers and guys who've been acting like asses all night who get the boot, and the most common breaking point is when they push over a girl half their size. At punk shows if you push someone over you're supposed to help them up. |

Can someone please give me the heads-up on this venue? Someone recently posted an invite/link on my blog but because I'm dumb - I can't read hangul.
Thanks in advance. |

I remember once, back in the day, at a Hanson Brothers show, this girl I barely knew fell down, and I grabbed her arm to help her up, and she tried to slug me. She missed me and hit somebody else and then fell down again. Poor old whatsername. Allison, maybe?
She's long dead, now.
Ah, back in the good old the day.
Of course, any time I see somebody fall down at a show like that, I still try to help them up. That poor girl was just messed up.
No point, really, in this post. Thread just got me all semi-nostalgic.
Maybe I'll come check out the punk scene here one night. Looks pretty fun!
Hey, RT--just wondering, you seem pretty 'in-the-know' about the local scene--are all the kids messed up on glue and whippets, or do they just drink?
Or maybe they're 'straight-edgers?' In this boozy, boozy land, that'd be about as punk as you could possibly get. |

There are no drugs in the punk scene here, just alcohol, and only some of the Korean punks take it any great distance. I'd say the foreigners at shows do most of the drinking, and then the Koreans go out drinking afterward and stay up til dawn.
There are a few straight-edge bands and the Geeks have a pretty decent following in Korea and also outside the country, but it's a pretty positive thing and they're non-violent. I remember recently I was standing on the side of the stage while the Geeks were performing pouring out mokoli for some of my friends and there wasn't a problem.
When I was at the Nofx show some white chick tried pushing me over when my back was turned because she saw I had a camera. Not cool, and it didn't work. |

If you watch the video carefully, in almost every case the divers ended up face down on the floor. Was a riot to see though. No one yet has been hurt on my watch. Depending on the mood of the bands we sometimes try and enforce a "no stage diving" rule to varying degrees of effect. |

Stage diving is allowed at Skunk so long as you aren't an ass about it. |

Really glad to hear that. The most distressing thing about the punks in my town was the fact that almost all of them were total garbage-heads who would eat or breathe just about anything if it got them messed up. Specifically, the big problems were glue, smack, and crack. Sad stuff...a whole lot of the old skaters are crackheads now, and most of my old punk friends are dead from AIDS or smack. In this country, that kind of person would be a drunken glue huffer.
Stoked to hear that in Korea, they haven't mindlessly imitated the whole kit and kaboodle.
I guess the hip hop kids are good that way too...they don't actually shoot each other or get 'thug life' tats. |
