at my school, the parents pay a small fee for thier child to be provided with the milk. So, the parents don't know the kids aren't drinking it. ANd the school doesn't care, b/c they aren't paying. One of my coteachers takes home about 10 cartons a day for his house from the milk that isn't drunk.

Some of my kids like to let their milk sit out half the day and drink it "warm" (*puke*)

Teaching in Japan, we had milk at school lunch every day. Sometimes there'd be heaps left over, so people could drink more, or take it home. It wasn't wasted by the kids, though.

I don't know if this helps, but I read recently that, "the vast majority of humanity is lactose intolerant." I was surprised to read this.

Also,

"Functional levels of adult tolerance to lactose have been recorded only among northern Europeans and white North Americans (approaching 90 per cent), and nomadic pastoralists in Africa (80 per cent tolerant)."

Page 185 in this book:

Interesting enough I suppose.

It's supposedly bad for your health to drink liquid with your meal in Korea. But not having soup is also bad. Confused

Kids drink milk here.. I am severly lactose intolerant..

Any who I told them I didn't want milk because of that reason, they actually made me sign a form stating so.

This is especially true of East Asia and Africa which aren't historically dairy producing regions to the same extent as areas such as Western Europe.

I know Chinese and Japanese friends who find it uncomfortable to digest milk.

One day a week (usually Friday) the kids at my public school get chocolate, strawberry, banana, or peanut flavoured milk. Their lactose intolerance seems to disappear that day.

I recall being an elementary student in the good ol' US of A, and getting those tiny cartons of milk with lunch. We never drank them either, unless it was chocolate milk.

And while we're talking milk, damn, banana milk is good. I didn't even know it existed until I came to Korea. Melon flavored milk, however, sucks.

i took a survey of my Korean co-workers today. It went something like this:

"How much milk do you drink a day?"
"Uh, no. One week. One time."
The results didn't stray much from that. ALthough there were a few who asked if soy milk was acceptable as part of the answer.

I always figured it was milk and beef that were making Korean kids so bloody tall these days, but if beef is too expensive, and no one drinks milk, then what is it???

Andrew, we all know the truth! You steal the kids' milk and drink it yourself!

HA!

Actually, the students always give me a carton of milk at my school but I am the one who doesnt drink it; I sneak off in the middle of the day and put it in the staff reefer. Its so nice they give me one for free but I just dont like milk.

The majority of my kids in elem. drink it by 2nd period.
A few don't. I get my milk for lunch, but since i'm semi intolerant, i only drink it hot and add coffee to it in the morning.

I just to take leftover milk from lunch back home for my morning dose of coffee, which saves me from buying them.
