What a stroke of genius - putting a game-toy on a pencil case. It gives the idea to the kids that they can play a game because its not a game, its a pencil case.

My policy about this technological breakthrough? Confiscation on good days. Bad days - public destruction under foot.

I haven't had any problems with it....

When I come into class i ask them to stop playing the game and 99 times out of 100 they will. If that one time they start it up again I tell them to put it in their bags and they always have....

I don't know what the deal is, kids love to play with pencil cases, I have a rule -- no toys. If you're playing with it, it's a toy. I collect pencil cases, multi-pens, whatnot. when they say, "no toy, pencil case," i repeat, "if you're playing with it, it's a toy."

Sometimes i pick it up and put it in their bag, but I get to decide if i hold onto it, or if it oes in their bag. if they try to hold onto it, i pry it out of their fingers, then put it into their bag. i am in charge, not they.

If they cry, they cry. If thy complain to mommie, i don't care. No toys.

A kid brought numb-chucks to class. I wowed them with my numb-chuck handling skills, then took it away.

I work in a haogwan, but i don't take guff from kids.

ah the stress of toys...
but lets sit back a minute to reflect and enjoy...

isnt it adorable when they're trying to hide candy or a toy under their seat, or behing their backs, as you calmly approach their desk? dont you fall back into your own youth, and remember doing the same thing?

and all that time, picking your nose in the corner, you though noone noticed... -sigh-

I have a sign in my middle school classes now. It basically says if you play with anything I will take it from you.

I keep it for a week, regardless of what it is (except for the classroom keys) then if the student wants it they have to come to me, apologize and ask for it in english using a complete sentence.

=D

When I worked at a high school, I took their toys.

Toys included:

cell phones
mirrors
mini-games
keychains(good luck getting in the house that night)
PSPs (kept that one longer than I wanted too Smile)
Those little electronic pets (they all died because they were not fed for a week)
pencil cases (with and without games)
pencils
pens
loads of other stuff.

One week. The school rule was 3 days, but I stuck to my one week. I once had over 20 cell phones in my desk. I had parents come in to get the phone. I'd tell them no.

If it is fun and you are playing with it...it's a toy. Except for that one thing we all love to play with.

Yup, it brings back memories all right. I was the same way and was always surprised that the teacher knew what I was doing. Just like the kids are now.

I very much dislike the "toy" pencil cases as well, but the toy guns are worse. Personally I think students that bring those to school should lose them permenately.

At this point though with 5 weeks to go, I'll probably just take it away from them for the class period.
