Dear Everyone!
I want to start a band called the Fighting Mokpo All-Stars. I'd like to play a show or two at the P-bar, whatever other foreigner bars we might find, and maybe in Gwangju or Suncheon, too. I play guitar and sing, poorly yet avidly; I have rudimentary keyboard skills (but no keyboard), and can play a few other instruments (accordion, harmonica, banjo, etc).
This band will be extremely informal; if you'd like to join just to do a few songs at one or two sets, that's fine. I'd really like to find a like-minded collaborator, someone with whom I can work to write and arrange songs, who is also a multi-instrumentalist/singer. I've met some people already who are willing to sing and play drums. The band could be anywhere from two to six members. The emphasis is on fun, really. I love performing and making music.
I can really only narrow the sound down to "acoustic". Everything in that sphere is welcome; I do a lot of Irish folk songs, some 50s-60s country, some alt-country, lots of indie folk-pop, and a bunch of nautical shanties. We might perform a Straussian waltz, followed by a dark cabaret waltz, followed by a country waltz, followed by a 2/4 march about zombies. I have songs about cowboys, pirates, dinosaurs, killer ghost-children, and all sorts of lovely things. I'm working on a spiritual, too. The watchword here is "unusual". You need to be willing to experiment with form and content.
If you write songs - bring them in. If you just sing, and want to do a cover or two, that's fine. My main desire is to perform and enjoy music with other people.
Here are some of the musicians I most enjoy:
Neko Case, Joanna Newsom, Sufjan Stevens, Bonnie Prince Billy, Tom Waits, the Clash, the Decemberists, the Pogues, Johnny Cash, Gillian Welch, Old 97s. ... that's all I can think of just now.
All right! We don't have a phone right now, so just PM me, and I'll get back to you. Thanks! I look forward to rocking out with you. |
