He had disappeared for a while and now he's back with a vengeance, and making a total ass out of himself...

the inability to differentiate between personal attacks and comments is a sign in many major and serious psychological disorders, as is the need to strike out/back....

Hopefully he's ok.

Thanks for dedicating a thread to me, gentlemen. I have always considered you my posse -- in fact, especially Octavius. Kiss kiss.

And mods: please do not delete this thread. No objections here.

I think he's just trying to make a point about something or another.

the supreme irony in his point comes in the form of his current avatar. A book, written by a man, who LOVED his country but was deeply critical of it's actions, much in the same way many of the posters that Gopher is now lashing out at have been. I have no doubt williams would be deeply critical of what the Bush admin is doing, both abroad and domestically.

Also note, that rather than deflect criticism and saying 'other people are bad too', Williams addressed his own nations problems, especially since he sought as a world leader, and that it's proclaimed values and virtues were being compromised, and had been compromised by government policy and actions.

He dealt with his own country's problems... something gopher seems eager to avoid.

Well, you can't deny he's posting a lot to make a very small point. Yes, he's a very good debater so I question why he's just making himself look like a whack job.

That's the Canadian nationalist's fallacy: As long as we don't suck as bad as America then we're peach good beacons of light and reason.

I agree whole heartedly, with the exception that our big mass shooting (the first one anyway) in Montreal led to a major re-examination and MASSIVE changes in our gun laws along with a number of other issues that were associated with the shooting.

In this case what seems to have been the final push for Gopher's break down is the criticism of the US brought about by the VT shooting. rather than dealing with the gun problem, gopher's posting stories about anything and everything he can find in other nations...

Didn't the mods just get through saying that threads devoted to bashing a specific poster were NOT cool?

in this case the person in question has endorsed the thread.

Moreover, I can only speak for myself, but I think others may feel the same way, but I'm genuinely concerned for gopher's mental well-being. He had been on edge for a while, getting less stable/rational little by little, then he disappeared for a bit and now BLAMO...

It's not normal, nor is it a good sign.
