its a lg kp 4500
can it be used with a vodafone sim card? does it need unlocking? if so how do you do it? etc
any help would be appreciated, thanks |

| Open it up. Can you see a spot for a SIM card? If not then give up. If so, read the manual, and ask whoever you got the phone from to find out whether it's a phone that can be used outside Korea, and whether it is locked or not. |

If it is a korean phone then the answer is probably no. Telecom will not allow phones from other countries on their network (unless roaming). I have checked this out. Vodafone is gsm so 99% of korean phones won't work. Most of the time that little thing that looks like a sim card holder is actually a chip holder for banking or subways.
So bring it if you want a fancy looking alarm clock (if you can change the time, a lot of cdma phones take the time right off the network and will not allow you to change the time).
If by chance it is a gsm phone then you can get it unlocked (no idea cost but i have seen a couple of shops that do it)

Careful: even with a SIM card slot a Korean HP may not work overseas. I believe that in many of the new HP's the SIM card is for banking stuff.
There are world 'phones available now - I have one - but they ain't cheap and are for roaming overseas from Korean providers. |

Actually Telecom NZ is a CDMA network just like Korea. Vodafone NZ is a GSM network and runs on simcards like most of the rest of the world..
If it's not network locked then I'd be very surprised if it didn't work on one of the 2 networks.
(Opps just checked blackjacks post, must have missed that. Maybe Telecom NZ wont allow it.) |

well it does have what appears to be a sim card holder and i would want to use it on the vodafone network.
i'll be in seoul probably next saturday, where is there a shop with an english speaker that can i go to ask about it?
