What do you do to get rid of nasty smells coming up through the drain in your bathroom floor? I have an air freshenr sitting right on mine, and still, I can sometimes smell garlic or sewage smells from other people's places coming up through it. I am thinking of getting a small towel and a plant to put on top of it, plus have the air freshener in there. Maybe the air fresheners here suck. I also open the small bathroom window from time to time. I can't leave it open all the time though, because little gnats manage to get through the screen somehow. |

I used to pour a litre of chlorine down the drain every other day. It worked well and did not have any cell damaging side effects, etc. |

There is an Australian company selling fit later s bends for all kinds of drains. I did try to google them a while ago, but to no avail.

If you put a tic-tac up your arse and your farts still stink to high hell, is it the tic-tac's fault?
Here's what I did for my crazy drain stench problem: First, clean out the drain screen as best as you can. Then go to the store and buy about 800 bottles of that stuff with the picture of a drain on it. Also some bleach. Pour down a whole ton of it at a time, before bed when it can just sit for hours and hours. Repeat until you are satisfied. |

A little vinegar and baking soda may help at least once a week.
Mostly the absence of the S-trap in the drains is the true culprit.
Keep your bathroom door closed and open the bathroom window.
Pour a bucket of water down the drain before bathing or any other extended use.
In the kitchen, seal off the floor drains.
Keep the drain lids in place on the sink.
Use the vinegar and baking soda as above.
