I shout at them when they try to further crap up the posters, but I can't watch them every second. I really hate how these kids are raised with no respect for property that's not their own.

Yeah but you notice he taped a clear covering over the poster to foil doodlers. Doodling must be intense there.

For whatever reason kids do not respect other peoles property. I no longer go to the expense or trouble to put up maps or posters, they just destroy them over time. Smile

It annoys the hell out of me too. I just don't understand it.
I am forever telling my highschoolers, you think they would have grown out of it by now, to stop writing on the desk, keyboard and not to take the headphones apart. Arghhh!!!!!!

Ha. Yes. And this poster is remarkably free of anti-Japanese screeds. I swear one of the dino eyes resembles a Japanese flag...

to stop writing on the desk,

Buy a tooth brush and some cleaner. When they write on the desk get them to clean them with the tooth brush.

If they don't do it properly get them to clean the floor as well - with the toothbrush.

The worst is getting on a subway with a bunch of high school boys. If they're not sitting in each other's laps like young lovers, they're fighting. I can't believe none of the ajusshi's pipe up these days.

(To be fair, you don't want to be on a Toronto bus that loads up in front of some high schools.)

Some kids were fucking about at the gym last week hitting the exercise balls with fighting stick things.

They were making a right old noise when a younger woman went over and shouted at them to stop it. They just ignored her. Couldn't care less.

All of the Korean teachers talk about how things have changed in the classroom over the last 20 years. The progressively worse behavior of the students and their attitudes towards learning.

I told them it was because of the influence of western television and movies that the problem was coming from and Korea should ban television, movies and outside internet.

I do wonder what the North Korean students are like though.

My hunch is parents no longer take the time to school their kids in basic manners. The kids do nothing but study. The rare times they're not under the iron supervision of a teacher or parent, they just go hog wild.

Agreed. This is what happens when you get other people to "parent" your kids....

So is it a reflection on my potential parenting skills?

I always knew I would be a bit ropey at it.

I put it down to changing economic status. The parents were forced to go without when they were young, so now they want to give everything to theirs. They want to make the child happy so they are afraid to make any rules.

Combine that with teachers who don't know any other method of classroom control other than the stick (which is being taken away) and you get kids out of control.

I've had some success by making them do their own posters. They don't seem quite so gung-ho for carving up their own stuff as they are for carving up mine.

Korean kids are respectful of their familes, but rarely to foreign teachers. Hence, the ambush of your poster. Too bad, nice work. In a week, there will be a new dinosaur drawing added to your poster--it'll probably be you with a horrid comment about you in Korean.

Use the smash head technique next time they act up! Welcome to the baby-sitter job!
