Hey all-
Being a "newbie" I was wondering what the best/ cheapest way to call the states is. Any advice? I have been doing Windows Messenger and AIM messenger up until now, but they aren't working so great and only lead to frustration when the connection's no good.
Thanks! |

Try skype.
www.skype.com
I use it to call Canada for 2cents a minute. All you need is a headset which cost around 5,000-10,000 won. The quality's pretty good for the price. |

Go to a local corner shop and buy a 10,000 won card that lists the USA. The one I get gives me 4 hours if I use a land-based line, or 1 hour 45 minutes if I use a handphone. |

Yell really loud...just kidding.
If you have a home phone you could go the calling card route as BB has suggested. If you have a computer at home and internet access you can sign up for a VOIP. I recommend Gizmo Project. |

I use Vonage VOIP. Unlimited calls to the US, Canada and the UK for $25 mo. Everyone I referred here has been happy. The quality is perfect. People I call are constantly amazed by the clarity.
The best thing is that I have a local US number for my parents to call me. All my friends in the US have nation-wide calling plans, or Vonage, so they can call me when it's a convenient time for them.
PM for details and I'll send you a referral to get a free month.

skype + webcam - it makes the distance seem so much smaller when you can see someone |

I always buy a calling card called A+ from Itaewon. It is from this little store close to one of the exits which is just the opposite of the Hamilton Hotel. You can't miss it. It is just before the hot dog place. The card will cost you 13,000 won, and you can talk for about 200 minutes, I think.
That's not bad at all. |

use skype it is really cheap and you can use web cam too. If your fam has a comp too its free and if you're calling a land phone it really cheap anyway. |

Same here, thanks to happygirl's suggestion. I love that I'm gonna have the same phone # when I get home. |
