|
|
I'm hoping to land a gig teaching at a public school in Seoul this fall so I am thinking SMOE is the way to go. I have had informal experience with tutoring in high school and college, but no actual employment that is related to teaching. Are my letters of reference going to be alright (by SMOE's standards) if they have absolutely nothing to do with the job I am hoping to land? My employers can attest to my character and work ethic, but I doubt the fact that I am a great employee when waiting tables is really going to floor anyone. Given the fact that there are so few positions available, SMOE seems like it could get pretty competitive...
Thanks for the advice, seasoned teachers,

I just ended up using letters of reference from professors at my university. I also used one from my student job (my job was to sit at a desk and play PC games and supposedly help people when needed).
I wouldn't worry too much about it. |

Wow...we had the same student job. Those were the days
Thanks though. I will work with what I have and hopefully I can land a decent job. |

One of my letters of reference was written by my taekwondo kwanjagnim here in Korea. He's never seen me teach but wrote an awesome letter for me.
I actually taught in America for three years but knew that I couldn't get a letter of ref from my principal quickly enough because they were doing their big year end tests at the time.
Don't worry about it. |

Ha ha. So one letter from mom, one from dad. Check. They seem to like me. |

The letters are not followed up. All they care about is that they have an official looking letterhead. Read between the lines |
