I teach at two schools.

7 classes of 4,5,6

Each class has roughly 30-35 kids

So I roughly teach 640 kids in one school.

At my second school I have 4 classes each have 10-15 kids

So grand total is about 670 kids.

What I don't understand is that why the hell do they have schools which have more staff then students .. Whats the point isn't it a huge waste of tax payers money.

Yep, a huge waste of money.
I went to a school last year way out in the country.
Grade 1-6, total number of students = 14.
Total number of staff=12, including a fulltime school nurse. Ridiculous.

I work in a middle school and teach one lesson each week with each class in the school - Currently just 1st class and 2nd classs - school is only 2 years old. There are 9 classes in each grade with almost 40 in each class. So I teach around 360 students each week ... and can guarantee if I go shopping or even just out walking anywhere around where I live I will meet students every time ... and for me that is not a bad thing ...

I teach in a hagwon, I have 10 classes. I see 6 of them every day, two of them every Tuesday and Wednesday, and two of them every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Mon, Wed, Fri, and Tue, Thur classes swap over every 4 weeks.

I think the average class size is a tad over 4, so I think I have 45 students?

Dang! How do you do it?

I teach average of 5 adult students per class. Teaching average of 20 classes per week which makes total of 100 students. It's a cake walk to teach.

1 middle school = ~1,430 kids

I teach 12 classes each of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders. They each average about 40 students per class. I don't mind teaching that many students, but the only downside is that I see them once every 2 weeks, sometimes once a month if their class is cancelled for some reason

I teach 2 grades in a public high school: 1st graders I see once a month (520 students); 2nd graders once a week (580 students). Total of 1100 kids churning through my classroom. This is down from last year since there are 2 fewer first grade classes this year than we had before.

Funny thing is, though, thinking back to my hagwon days, it seems so much easier now than it used be. I may have 40 faces looking up at me at one time, but I don't have the problem of 8 year old boys tearing around the room or ducking under the table or having to walk down the hall with a kid affixed to each leg in a koala contest. Compared with that, 1100 high schoolers are a breeze...

There are some schools like that in my district, and they're usually the victims of massive rural flight. At one time there were enough students to justify the number of staff, and staff levels have stayed the same even though numbers have dropped. Even my school, which has about a 15:1 ratio, once had twice as many students and the same amount of staff.

At any rate, re: the OP's question, there are about 520 students at my school and I teach about 480. On paper I also teach the grade 3 vocational students but not in reality. I get some of the middle schoolers in my drama and / or writing class in addition to the one lesson a week so it's nice see some of the same faces up to three blocks a week.

Easy, kids in public schools really behave well plus there is a lot more support from your co-teachers.

35 kids in a public school still behave ten times better then 8 kids in a haqwon.
