Do they genuinly dislike eachother, or is it more of a poster on this site thing? I sometimes sense some animosity towards eachother when I read some threads. Just curious. Cool

You only sense some animosity on this board? There is a lot on this board, but it is mostly the losers who do it. In "real life" there really isn't much animosity and most people get along. Half of my friends here are American and the other half Canadian for the most part and we all get along just fine and joke and make fun of each other.

There are two types of Canadians... the ones who live on the border, and the ones who live in Canada.

I genuinely have a disliking for about 90% of the Canadians I meet who live right on the border, especially from Ontario. Not all, but a disproprionate number, and when talking to a Canadian friend of mine (who doesn't like them either), we figured out why....

Inferiority complex. Grew up so close to America, it's as if their entire cultural identity is based on "not being American", and not about "what it is to be Canadian".

As a Canadian, I don't have any hatred towards our American brothers. My only problem is with the difference in foreign policies, to which many Americans are now having a problem with. In the end, Americans and Canadians are very similar. We had MTV/Guns & Roses/Madonna/pick your idol as our guides. From the TV generation, our ideals are similar. We do have our differences, but I think there are more similarities.

I have many American friends whom I see eye to eye with. Likewise I know many Canadians whom I wouldn't give the time of day.

I really dont think Americans have a vs. feeling about Canadians. I had never really thought about any type of rivalry until I read some post on the topic here.

I frankly think the whole thing is silly. America and Canada (Quebec excluded) share the same culture (developed jointly). Yes, I respect the fact that Canada is a sovereign nation but from a cultural stand point Canada has the same culture as the Northern United States. Same language, same racial make up, same religious beliefs, similar customs. Neighbors like Malaysia and Thailandnot the same culture. America and Canadasame culture.

Generally, I find the people who hold their national identity (no matter what the nation) in an exaggeratedly high position are those who have had the fewest individual accomplishments.

Them Yankees took away our ARROW ! ! !

Until Canada is fully compensated for the loss of what could have been the greatest aircraft ever made, I will continue to ...

wtf. Not like anyone here knows what I'm talking about.

Canada is just lucky that the States haven't bullied and invaded and took more from us!

That's awesome. Cuz, being from Toronto, how you just described us is exactly how we describe Maritimers. (generally, we couldn't give 2 craps about the west)

OP, Canadians and Americans get on fine. Idiots from both countries on Dave's.

I guess I'll take the role as the apologist.

No one from America knows Canadians hate them. Thus they don't hate Canadians. Why would they? They are our brothers in arms from the north. Then you go abroad and find every Canadian hates America. The hatred makes sense and you can't really hold it against them (little brother syndrome, but don't tell them that). Anything Americans do is good natured ribbing until they figure out the truth and, becuz they are so sure of themselves, they take offense and fire back. That means the backlash you might see here is merely Americans being caught off guard.

They always label themselves as "northamericans", not as "canadians". This is to address their inferiority complex... so obvious.

Canada does not have the same culture as the Northern U.S. Sorry to inform you. I'm from Alberta, known as the "rednecks" of Canada (except I find Maritimes to be much more redneck) but drive across the border to Montana, or into Idaho, and it is a whole different world. Different accent, plaid, gun racks, confederate flags, you name it. Believe me, you know you are not in Canada anymore.

By the way, I love Americans. They are warm-hearted, passionate people. Unfortunately, many of them have been sold a bill of goods about themselves that is phooey. Something along the lines of "this is the greatest country in the world...only in America is,,,,,,,possible". That kind of drivel.

different countries with different foreign policies and different judgements of character when electing presidents/prime ministers.

Canadians and Americans get on fine. It's the stupid and the ignorant who make a big fuss with their lame "we're better than them, they are inferior to us" statements. Culturally, we're very much the same.

don't make generalizations based on a few ppl u don't like. u might as well be a racist.
