I saw a show the other day about Reggae and Bob Marley. Two Korean guys go to Jamaica, find some "old" film (just modern video with filters added to make it appear old) of a Korean guy influencing Bob Marley and other Jamaicans, and the two Korean guys "discover" that Bob Marley copied many things from Korea.

Examples:
- The "old" film shows two Jamaican guys arguing over who gets to play with a Korean drum (janggu). The Korean guy tells the two Jamaican guys not to fight. The Korean guy then cuts the janggu into two, then gives the two Jamaicans each half. The film tries to give the impression that the Korean guy influenced Jamaicans and Reggae over the matter of being peaceful, and not fighting. It also tries to say that drums used in Jamaica were influenced by the janggu.

- Korean guy in the film has long hair. He tells Bob Marley and other Jamaicans not to cut their hair. That is why Bob Marley had long hair, cause a Korean guy told him not to cut it.

- The colorful clothing of Jamaica was influenced by Korean hanbok.

- The rhythm of Reggae was influenced from traditional Korean music (The Korean guy in the film played traditional Korean music around a young Bob Marley.).

Anyone else see this show? I did some searching and didn't find evidence of Bob Marley copying Korea. Was the show meant to be a joke, or do people genuinely think Korea greatly influenced Bob Marley and Reggae?

Was there an obnoxious laugh track? It sounds like a "UV" stunt. They're this duo that likes to pretend they did very famous things, or interacted with very famous people. No one takes it seriously.

One Korean guy wore sunglasses the whole time. The other Korean guy had a bad mustache.

I don't remember a laugh track. It was on one of the channels that tends to feature music related programming.

I seent it. But my Korean isn't fluent so I wasn't aware that the program's message was as extreme as you say.

But are you really that surprised? There are some people who think Jesus was Korean... Laughing

That's hilarious. Korea is in need of a serious ego check, and some ganja.

I'm pretty sure this had to have been a comedy show or something.

Definitely UV. It's both funny and telling that people thought Koreans took this seriously. They're not that ignorant.
