Might be a "cure" for cystic fibrosis/muscular dystrophy among about 1,000 other genetic diseases. Problems:

1) It's in early stages
2) One will have to stay on it for life

Many promising drugs fail at phase 3 testing. But being hooked on a drug is better than dying of CF or MD.

In these diseases there's a "stop codon" at the wrong place in the genetic code. It's a bit like an "End of File" marker half way through your Word doc. Word will just stop importing your doc. The drug causes the stop codon to be skipped over during protein synthesis so the process can read the remaining gene coding.
