We are looking to take a trip to either the Philippines or Indonesia in December. We would like to dive while there. We're pretty sure it's going to be the rainy season in Indonesia, but it might still be ok to dive. Does anyone know if it would be worth going there to dive in December? Indonesia is our first choice but if the diving isn't going to be up to par, we'll go to the Philippines instead.
Thanks for your help. |

We were thinking about going to Indonesia too, but didn't think about the rainy season. Will it really affect the visibility there? Should we consider the Philipines too? |

It does not significantly affect the visibility (40 meters as compared to 50) but the weather can have an effect on the wave action and dive site accessability.
The central/southern Phils and northern Indonesia don't typically suffer from cyclones but the monsoon can be a factor. They would be comparable in terms of diving in December. |

from what i understand, rainy season in the philippines is in the spring, but dont take my word for it. i dove there in february, around cebu, at malapascua and moalboal. visibility at both places was crap, but the wind had been up for a few days before we got there. malapascua was not very good...lots of dynamite damage. we even heard some going off near us. they have thresher sharks there, but we didnt see any. moalboal was pretty good though.... |
