Details here: Scribbling of the Metropolitician (Hat tip to The Marmot's Hole).
MUST-READ for anyone thinking of badmouthing their employer on the internet or otherwise. The truth does *not* matter in Korea. |

| So what's the name of the school? It shouldn't be too difficult to make sure that she has a hell of a more difficult time finding new teachers in the future. |

School details have been removed. I don't know.
Considering the guy is facing a criminal lawsuit and is owed 6,000,000won he'll likely not see a penny of, I'm sure he doesn't want to rock the boat anymore.

Having said that, I want to talk about my case. This is something that happens regularly in Korea but is rarely talked about in the media. I tried to document the procedures to help others who regularly go through the same thing. Since I documented the court and legal procedures on my web site, I am facing a criminal suit for defamation.
...
I was very careful about what I said and limited it to only factual events and what was written on court documents. No speculation. No bad mouthing. No calls to action.
As a warning to any foreigner thinking of defending himself on the internet when his employer steals money from him or screws him over in any way dont talk about it.
It is illegal.

Does the stupid bitch not realise that after he's left the country she's going to be blacklisted all over the Internet? |

Yeah, that's what you have to do I guess. Wait until you've left the country and never plan to return, and sing your song ala "Prisoners of Wonderland".
I hope things work out for him, but it seems like the odds are stacked against him. As he's someone actively promoting Korea, it's a shame. We've been here before, haven't we? |

| That's the problem, under Korean libel (as th OP said) law it doesn't matter if what you say is the truth. |

Am I missing something?
He "got a letter from the local Cybercrime division requesting my presence at the police station for questioning" about what, they don't say. So he removed all the posts he had written about his troubles.
Nothing has happened yet. |

If the Korean Government would really crack down on hagwon owners then they wouldn't be able to sue, because it wouldn't make sense for hagwon owners facing an investigation to be able to sue. But things don't make complete sense when it comes to justice over here. |

I think it's sometimes true in America, some other countries : truth is not always the greatest virtue to be sought, when it comes libel or slander. It's more about intent - did you wish to inform people of something important they need to know, or rather, did you intend to damage someone? If it's the latter, it means malice is the motivation, and in some places, the law will punish people for acting on such malice.
Dunno all the particulars of this case, just throwing that out there.
Truth might be an important factor if you are, say, a journalist, and your job is to publish what is true. If you are a citizen, then gossip that amounts to slanderous libel is something that damages people with no benefit to anyone. I think that's how the reasoning might go.
I'm a big believer in free speech, by the way, and what I've been reading about this so far disturbs me. It's important to remember that Korea is a different country from the places we came from, so the laws are different also. Whether that's good or bad is irrelevant - it's something we need to be aware of.
In the end, if this is happening, it's a scary thing, and it means that any time we try to warn each other of a bad business to get involved in, we will need to look over our shoulders. I don't like that. No, not at all.
As I read this, I think it is the case that the injured party was trying to inform people of things that are important to them, and I haven't yet seen a lot of evidence of malice. Let's hope the outcome is positive in the end.

Yeah, a bit confused too.

I don't know much about the Korean legal process. Maybe someone else can explain, or we'll have to wait until next week to learn more (maybe). |
