I worked in a school in 1997 in Taegu where I was completely taken advantage of. My boss did this and that- all of you can fill in the blanks- but the last straw was when I was told that I should "accompany" his very wealthy female friend for one night. I left Korea the next day in the middle of the night after 5 months (the so-called contract was for 12). As terrible as things sometimes were, I still miss the food and many of the people that I met. I'd like to go back and have a truly wonderful experience. If I go back, will I get in trouble? |

I. Contact the Korean Embassy in your home country. Explain the situation to them. Find out if there's a statute of limitations law applicable in Korea. It was 10 years ago, & lots of things have changed since then.
2. There's a current thread on the top 5 recruitment agencies in Korea. Print it out.
3. Insist on a Public School or University, & avoid hagwons like the plague.
Good luck! |

I wouldn't say to avoid hagwons. Do some research. There are some very good ones out there. In the end, it is a matter of preference. I prefer teaching 12 students per class.
And I would guess that you should have no problem getting back in. |

That would be my dreamjob, as far as ESL goes. PM me with the name of the school, please. |

RJjr & jinju
Maybe she was fat, ugly, & had vd? Interesting vocational choice, between being an ESL teacher, & a male prostitute! |

As far as I know, if you do a runner you can't get another job (without a release letter) until the original contract would have expired, which would have been sometime in 1998. I think you've been in the clear for about 9 years!
If you're really worried, apply for a job from your home country and get all the paperwork done before you arrive, and in the unlikely event that there's a problem you'll simply be refused, and there'll be no harm no foul. |

If you run and you are reported to Immigration as a runner, Immigration will sometimes put a "do not enter" on your passport... sometimes for up to 5 years. Either way, reported or not, "do not enter" or not, he's been clear for several years. |

Report your passport lost/stolen and get a new passport with new number.

You will have a new passport since it's been ten years.
I came back after four and it was not a problem.
There were no men with dogs waiting to get me. |

I'm at a cafe, so I'll need to tell my story in the next day or so. I think that most of you with low morals and have a taste for the dark side will enjoy it. She was Jabba. Worth about 10 Million USD. And we did go on a double date. Question: what would you do? I did, in fact ask her, if she had ever seen the movie American Gigalo... to be continued...Thanks for all the help...Am I really going back?!? |

Ten years ago it would have worked, but now that things are computerized, matching names is not a big problem (unless you have a pretty common name) |
