I've been studying a little Korean these days in anticipation of arriving in country at the end of the month and I've just gotten my computer set up for entering Hangul. My question is, how do I enter W+vowel characters? For example, how would I enter "hwa" or something like that? This isn't something that a google search is helping me too much with.

ㅗ plus ㅣ equals ㅚ and so on, if you type two characters that can be combined, the computer does it for you.

Right. 화 is the same key sequence as 'ghk'. 왜 is dho. and so on.

don't worry.. took me ages to work out how to type ㅆ, ㄲ and so on..
no one told me the importance of shift!
